The new school building is an expansion of the nearby Kingston International School. Site area is small and the program is to provide six classrooms and two multi-purpose rooms for two primary school levels.
We aim to make the entire environment and spaces themselves part of the active learning experience for the students, hence besides meeting the basic program needs,we create “possibility spaces” at various human scales. This interactive learning background of various scales sets up different challenges and exploration routes for students who no longer confined to their lessons inside classrooms but are encouraged to extend their creative learning activities beyond. Multi-functionality of space and interpretation of windows as an innovative media between interior and exterior was fully explored in this design. Students can experience the spatial connectivity from their movements at each floor and the continuous flow of space from inside-out and outside-in. The school building is filled with sunlight, air, greeneries, and joy.
